Okunitama-jinja Shrine
Okunitama-jinja Shrine's Setsubun Festival signifies the coming of spring. At this spectacular annual event, the temple has lots of high-profile guests to join in the traditional bean-throwing ritual. In the past, sumo wrestlers, TV personalities, athletes, and Fuchu's mascot have all taken part. The festivities last all afternoon. When the beans are thrown, everyone shouts "Fortune in!" ("Fuku wa uchi!") to wish for good luck throughout the year. You can also see a parade along the main route to the shrine, during which beans will be tossed.
